SHORTAGE OF CABS IN SEPTEMBER?

The DC cab industry is dominated by the Ethiopians, there are about 8000 legal and licensed cabs in DC and more than half is operated by Ethiopian drivers. I am probably one of the last American born drivers in existence, most of the remaining native born drivers are so old they are driving around with their own coffin in the trunk in case they drop dead.

Most Ethiopian drivers I know are going back to Ethiopia to celebrate the year 2000 back home. Ethiopians use different Coptic calendar and maybe the only country to do so, so they are seven years behind us and they are going to party big time in to the year 2000 and strangely September 11th is their new year's day!

My dear friend Mr Girma has invited me to go to Addis Ababa with him and his family, he has built a big ass mansion back home like every Ethiopian cabbies in Washington. I think $1 US is like $1billion Ethiopian dollars or some shit because most of them have big houses in Addis Ababa. So all I have to worry about is my plane ticket only according to Mr Girma and I am seriously thinking about it. I always wanted to visit Ethiopia, it's a unique African country and rich in history, my father's generation growing up looked up to Ethiopia and Emperor Haileselassie because at the time that was the only free black country on the planet that white people didn't fuck with. (with an exception of brief period of the Italian invasion during the second world war) And who knows I can hook up with a hot Ethiopian chick over there.

So ladies and gentlemen, you can bet your life that flagging a cab in Washington DC will be a little harder than usual in August and September because there will be thousands of cabs with their "OFF DUTY" signs parked for a month or so and even Mr Mad Cabbie may party in Ethiopia as if it's 1999.

Please don't forget the homeless,

Mad Cabbie.

August shouldn't be a problem. That's easily the slowest month of the year for cabdrivers. However, come Labor Day, if these guys are still in Ethiopia, THEN people may have problems getting cabs.
On the other hand, us American drivers should be cleaning up.

I'd stay in DC, clean up while the business is there and holiday at a quieter time, I'm sure Addis Adaba will be there next year and these "events" are never as good as expected .......... too much hype

Ethiopia, one of the oldest civilizations on the planet, that sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if you throw in some hot Ethiopian action...sounds like a Happy New Year to me.

How many times do you get a good crack at the millenium celebrations? If you can go, then what is holding you back?

Cabbie, On the one hand you have the millenium celebrations in a historic, exotic land with beautiful people who welcome you warmly. On the other hand you are next to the Sudan where there's a lot of killing and strife, fleeing refugees, and poverty. I say go for it but be very careful. It would help if someone could brief you on local customs so you don't get yourself into hot water. Enjoy this chance of a lifetime. You seem to be on the mend and are probably going stir crazy by now. This could be a good vacation.

I am here reviewing one of ur posts. Be sure to see your Jamaican brothers and sisters in Ethopia, they followed behind that white man, Bob Marley, worshipping that heathen Haillie Salassie, well they are 2nd class citizens there, go figure. Tell them I said Zephaniah 2:12. Really because I am here to check up on ur info, u are better off homeless on U street for a week (especially Sunday) and saying u went to Ethopia there 75,000 of them here. But if u do go, by a Somalian flag. Ethipion women are ugly, I'd tell u where slightly finer ones are but fucking heathens is unlawful for Jews. Thanks

Anonymous who's preaching about the Jamaicans!

Are you that loser I picked up on Wisconsin avenue about a year ago and the cop paid your fare? are you the one? I don't know you sound just like him! You still smoking crack uh?

You know it's me and Im proud. Yea, Im proud. Im never awkward for a while , Im just proud. Yea, I stand around just proud. (Same block you dropped me off at). I'm preaching already? Damn I need to look that word up. I am a Priest and a Prophet of the Most High in Christ and I don't smoke anything. Maybe you can take time out from making your wholesale deals with pimps and hustlers and read from Isaiah 30:9 all the way down to your content. One day I hope to get a personalized cab ride from you as soon as I get the special someone and the special $$$. Cabbie!
By the way am I still the numero uno hermano that u personally invited to your blog?

Oh, Mad Cabbie. You've been linked on Wonkette and are sure to get many new visitors like me. This is a very nice blog you have here ... very frank.

And, in that spirit, I must say you are probably right, to some extent, about size; though, I hear it is girth that is the actual important statistic.

On a related note, you may want to fantasize about the extraordinarily lovely Ethiopian women, but not go the whole way there. Firstly, you don't want that kind of trouble in the local conservative culture. Secondly, they have had their clits cut off when very young. And so will not be actually enjoying your attentions (no matter what anyone tells you otherwise!)
